Speed Into Autumn with Motorized LEGO Projects

Adults who maybe haven’t played with LEGO since they were kids are often astounded to see how far these little bricks have come. Far from the relatively simple (but let’s be fair, still beautiful) spaceships and cityscapes of the 80’s, LEGO now encompasses not just model building materials, but plenty of unique shapes, creative and timely themes, and wild motorized contraptions that can teach kids in-depth principles of mechanical engineering.

To help you and your kids speed through August and the remainder of summer, we’re proud to offer motorized LEGO kits and instructions that help teach your children STEM skills, creative problem solving, and give them new fun toys to last until school starts again (and beyond). You can find the following motorized LEGO products in the online shop on our website.

  • Motorized LEGO Project - Specialty Vehicles: From go-karts to trains, lawnmowers to race cars, this motorized vehicle curriculum contains 5 fast, fun, and cool projects designed to help children learn basics of engineering design, problem solving, and simple mechanical concepts from gears to pulleys to friction & resistance and more. Rev up your engines and let’s go off to the races! (Instructions only; bricks available in BRICKS Kit below)

  • Motorized LEGO Project - Minecraft: Since it originally launched in 2011, Minecraft has become not only the best-selling video game of all time, but also garnered praise from parents and educators for helping carry the torch of the “build whatever you can dream” mindset of LEGO fanatics. If your kid loves Minecraft, bring their favorite characters and creations into the real world with these Minecraft-themed motorized projects that help teach the basics of engineering and STEM skills. (Instructions only; bricks available in BRICKS Kit below)

  • Universal Motorized Projects BRICKS Kit: This physical kit comes with all the motors, battery packs, gears, axles, and general bricks needed to make anything in the Paul Bacio motorized project curriculum. Don’t waste time digging through your general-use LEGO bins to sort out that last tiny gear; all the bricks in this kit are contained within their own 3qt Sterilite storage bin.

Of course, the beauty of LEGO is that there’s always more to do as your imagination continues to explore. We have more motorized themes in the works, like motorized amusement park rides and motorized Star Wars projects, but until then, we encourage you and your kids to dream up your own projects using the principles learned from our starting points. Motorized LEGO systems can be as simple or as complex as you want, can combine in wildly different ways, and can result in some truly spectacular creations that are the ultimate combination of science, engineering, art, and creativity.
